Market|Breadth
Composite tracking of stock participation, moving averages, and market internals
Methodology
A composite measure of underlying stock participation in market moves. The breadth score (0-100) is calculated as a weighted average of three key components: Advance/Decline Score (30% weight, based on active index constituents), Short-Term Trend Breadth (40% weight, estimated % of stocks above 50-day MA), and Long-Term Health Breadth (30% weight, estimated % of stocks above 200-day MA).
- Advance/Decline Ratio (Daily Internals): Counts the ratio of rising to falling stocks in the country's database universe to measure immediate buying/selling pressure.
- 50-Day Moving Average Breadth (Short-Term): Estimated via the benchmark index ETF's proximity spread from its 50-day moving average (linear interpolation approximation). Shows short-term trend expansion.
- 200-Day Moving Average Breadth (Long-Term): Estimated via the benchmark index ETF's proximity spread from its 200-day moving average (linear interpolation approximation). Confirms macro regime health.
Market Relevance
Why it matters: Strong breadth confirms healthy uptrends. Diverging breadth (where the benchmark index rises but the number of participating stocks or A/D ratio shrinks) warns of internal weakness and a potential reversal.
